Three National Eviction Team (NET) Face Trial Preparation Hearing At Crown Court For Assaults On Peaceful Protesters

Three members of the NET who are HS2’s bailiffs “hired thugs of choice”, are due to appear at Warwick Crown Court on Friday 16th July 2021 for a ‘plea and preparation trial‘. They pleaded not guilty at the initial hearing on 18th June, however, the case has been moved to Crown Court for a new plea and trial preparation hearing due to the severity of the charges.

Here’s a reminder of the lengthy list of violent charges for an alleged attack on peaceful anti-HS2 activists at a hotel car park on 4th October 2020, which resulted in a person’s jaw being broken.

Phillip Ashley John:

  • 2 counts of Section 18 – grievous bodily harm with intent
  • 3 counts of false imprisonment

Alan Mark Winkler:

  • 3 counts of false imprisonment
  • Assault by beating
  • Assault causing actual bodily harm

Adrian Mark Long:

  • 3 counts of false imprisonment

An HS2 Rebellion spokesperson said:

“Contrary to media reports, the truth is many activists and campaigners have been mistreated and handled roughly by members of this team, and our lack of retaliation speaks volumes

Above all, we need to reiterate that we do not engage in violence when faced with aggression from these agents, who provide a shield for the ecocidal work and wildlife crimes committed by HS2.

We continue to resist the destructive project that is HS2, refuting the lies about its effect on our environment, highlighting the prolonged disruption faced by local communities, and calling for big infrastructure to be halted at a time of Climate and Ecological Emergency.”
